BRISTOL, TN - Thanks to a 16-hit outburst, the Pfeiffer softball team (9-12, 1-1 CC) split its Conference Carolinas opener at King (2-8, 1-1). Pfeiffer lost game one 10-3, but rebounded with an offensive explosion in a 9-6 game two win.
The Tornado scored in each of the first four innings in game one. Starting pitcher Kristin Durant allowed six runs in her 2.1 innings on the mound and allowed seven hits to drop to 2-4. King's Morgan Lowe improved to 2-3 on the season as she tossed a complete game and allowed three earned runs. Trailing 3-0 in the top of the third, Pfeiffer pushed across two runs to cut the lead to one. Lindsey Russell drove in Sadie Saine with an RBI groundout and Julie Bullington drove in Chandler Walker with a base hit. King answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning before eventually winning by seven.
King took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of game two but Pfeiffer tied the game in the top of the second as Rachel Crowder homered down the left field line. With the bases loaded in the top of the third, Russell crushed a two-RBI double to left field. King regained the lead with a four run bottom of the third on two hits and two Falcon errors. Chandler Walker erased a 5-3 deficit and put Pfeiffer on top as she crushed her second home run of the season, a three run shot to left field. Pfeiffer extended the lead with a two-run fifth inning and pushed across another run in the sixth inning. Sydney Poole improved to 3-3 on the season as she allowed just two earned runs in her seven innings.
The Falcons return to action with a home doubleheader against Southern Wesleyan on Friday at 2 p.m.
