MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The No. 11 Pfeiffer men's soccer team (5-0, 1-0 CC) remained unbeaten with a 3-1 victory over Barton (1-4, 0-2 CC) on Wednesday afternoon in their Conference Carolinas opener. Nathan Regis scored twice, including the game-winner in the 70th minute, as the Falcons set their sights on Saturday's showdown at No. 6 Limestone.
Regis' first strike of the game came in the 36th minute as Santi Moar set up the junior for his fifth tally of the year. The half would end with the Falcons holding a 1-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs were on the receiving end of a close call in the 50th minute as Pfeiffer was whistled for a foul in the box, giving Barton a penalty kick. Rodrigo Neves beat Nicolas Dulac to even the contest at 1. Exactly 20 minutes later, Regis took a corner kick from Martim Galvao and lofted his shot over the goalkeeper's head and through traffic to put Pfeiffer on top for good. In the 87th minute, Andrew Olortegui sent a perfect pass from midfield to a streaking Jaime Siaj who converted his sixth score of the season.
"We made hard work of it," said Head Coach Bob Reasso. "We had total control in the first half but didn't finish enough chances. The good thing is we battled through and got a win against a good team."
The Falcons dominated the offensive attack, outshooting Barton 22-11. The Falcons also had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks in the match.
Nicolas Dulac made three saves to improve to 5-0 in net.
The win sets up a big Conference Carolinas match at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday as the No. 11 Falcons travel to the No. 6 Limestone Saints.
