Galvao Breaks Career Assist Record in 5-0 Thrashing of Barton

Box Score

Jeremy Zalacca - Director of Athletic Communications

WILSON, N.C. - Martim Galvao broke the Pfeiffer all-time record with his 40th career assist as the No. 20 Falcons (10-2, 6-0 CC) cruised to a 5-0 victory over Barton (3-8-1, 1-4-1) on Wednesday evening. Santi Moar and Nathan Regis each scored twice as the Falcons ran their Conference Carolinas win streak to 19 straight regular season victories.

The all-time assist record stood since 1978 when Robert Hinch handed out his final helper. In his two-and-a-half seasons with the Falcons, Galvao surpassed the record thanks to a huge 2015 campaign that saw him lead the nation with 20 assists. Galvao has already ran his total to 10 assists this season and looks to put the record further out of reach.

"It is a pleasure for me to serve my teammates and that is the best way to help my team," said Galvao after the record-breaking match. "I enjoy playing beautiful football with my teammates so much."

After a scoreless 36 minutes, Pfeiffer's Regis notched the first goal of the match on a penalty kick to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. However, the Falcons would be unable to notch a second goal in the opening frame and went into the break with a narrow one goal lead.

The Falcons would explode in the second half, notching four goals. Santi Moar opened the scoring in the 49th minute as he took a failed clearance from Barton and sent a strike from 35 yards out to put Pfeiffer up two. The record breaking assist would come in the 55th minute as Galvao sent his ball to Moar who connected for his seventh goal of the season. Jaime Siaj would add a goal in the 62nd minute and notched an assist on Regis' final goal of the night in the 77th minute.

Siaj was constantly pressuring the Barton defense as he was credited with nine shots. For the match, Pfeiffer took 33 shots compared to just three from the hosts. Barton keeper Jens Hordvik made 15 saves in the losing effort, while Tomas Correa improved to 7-1 in net by making two stops. The Falcons haven't given up a goal in 360 consecutive minutes, posting four straight clean sheets.

"From the first whistle to the last, I thought we were tremendous tonight," commented Head Coach Bob Reasso. "All around it was a great effort. It was great to see Martim pull the strings in the middle of the park like he did tonight. He controlled the whole game and was exceptional tonight."

The Falcons return home on Saturday evening as they take on King at 7:30 p.m. to begin a stretch with three of the next four games at home.
