FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (1-0, 1-0 CC) won its season opener on Saturday afternoon, erasing a 7-5 halftime deficit with a 13-2 advantage in the second half to come away with a 18-9 victory. Molly O'Friel opened her junior campaign with seven goals and two assists.
In her Pfeiffer debut, freshman Meagan Bourque scored five times and added an assist. Reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Ally Unkenholz tallied three goals and three assists to go along with a draw control and ground ball. Kylie Lode (2 goals) and Josie Lent (1 goal) rounded out the goal scorers for the Falcons.
Lode started the scoring on the day, taking a pass from Unkenholz and finding the back of the net just over three minutes into the game. After Emmanuel scored three in a row, O'Friel netted back-to-back goals. Bourque scored with 7:39 to give the Falcons a 5-4 lead but the Lions closed out the half with three consecutive goals to take the 7-5 lead.
O'Friel and Bourque combined for the first five Pfeiffer goals to open up the second half. In total, Pfeiffer scored 11 straight goals in a 20 minute span to run the lead to 16-7.
Emily James made 10 saves in goal to earn the victory.
For the game, each team recorded seven ground balls. Emmanuel committed 20 turnovers, compared to 17 from the Falcons. Pfeiffer held a 34-26 advantage in shots.
The Falcons return to action on Feb. 22 as they open the home portion of their schedule with a Conference Carolinas matchup against North Greenville.
