LYNCHBURG, VA -- In its Division III debut, the Pfeiffer men's soccer team (0-1) came out on the short end of a 1-0 decision against No. 19 Lynchburg (1-0) on a rainy Friday night.

In the historic evening, Pfeiffer competed against a team that went to the NCAA Division III Tournament a season ago and is the reigning ODAC Champions. Unfortunately, the young Falcons dropped its season opener for the first time since 2012.

Pfeiffer's youth was on full display as 12 different players made their Falcon debut. However, it was a senior who had the most impact. Goalkeeper Tomas Correa was peppered with shots and finished the match with 10 saves, including one terrific stop on a breakaway to keep the Falcons close.

The lone tally of the match came in the 53rd minute when Zach Thomas took a feed from Austin Kues and beat Correa.

For the match, Lynchburg held a 21-5 advantage in shots and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks. Dylan McLaurin improved to 1-0 in goal for the Hornets, making four saves.

The Falcons return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Roanoke in the final game of the Schellenberger Classic at Lynchburg College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
