Eaton's Penalty Kick Sends Pfeiffer Women to 2-1 Win Over Southern Virginia

Cayci Eaton converted a penalty kick in the 65
th minute to send Pfeiffer University to a 2-1 win over Southern Virginia in a USA South women's soccer match at N.E. Lefko Field on Saturday afternoon.

Julia Hayes (Waxhaw, N.C.) scored her second career goal in the 23
rd minute on a corner kick to put Pfeiffer up 1-0. The kick, delivered by senior
Tracy Torrez (Orlando, Fla.) was then headed by fellow senior
Morgan Cecil (St. Cloud, Fla.) to the foot of Hayes, who ripped it past the SVU keeper to stake the Falcons to the 1-0 lead. Both Torrez and Cecil earned assists on the play.
After leading 1-0 at halftime, Pfeiffer conceded a goal to the Knights in the 58
th minute when Makya Lindren scored on a pass from Anna Roberts.
Eaton, from Harrisburg, N.C., then earned a penalty kick in the 65
th minute after she was pulled down in the box while attempting a shot. She then beat SVU keeper Alyssa Trueman to regain the lead at 2-1, a margin that would last until the final whistle, sending Pfeiffer to their initial win of the season while snapping a program-worst 10-match losing skid dating back to the spring of 2021.

Pfeiffer will look to build on the momentum of their first win of the 2021 season when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a USA South match against Meredith College. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
