Pfeiffer Softball Takes Two At Guilford to Open 2022 Season
Greensboro, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2022) – The Pfeiffer Falcons softball team won both ends of their season-opening twinbill at Guilford College on Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

How it Happened – Game 1
After spotting Guilford the 1-0 lead in the first, Pfeiffer rallied to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning when
Ellie McHone (Lowgap, N.C.) grounded into a double play, but freshman
Jaci Cook was able to race home to score.
Guilford reclaimed the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second, but Pfeiffer plated three runs in the third on RBI singles from seniors
Caiti Mickles (Boonville, N.C.) and
Hannah Tyner (Carthage, N.C.) to put Pfeiffer ahead once more 4-2. A Quaker error allowed Pfeiffer to boost the lead to 5-2 in the third.
Pfeiffer added four runs in the fourth when freshman
Emma Chopko (Mooresville, N.C.) drew a bases loaded walk. Tyner would also draw a bases loaded walk to put the Falcons up 7-2. A wild pitch allowed Chopko to scored to make it 8-2.
The Quakers did manage to get a run back in the fourth, but
Emma Bullin (Ararat, N.C.) was able to shut the home team down the rest of the way, scattering just two hits to close out the first game.
In game two, Pfeiffer trailed 4-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning but was able to tie it up to send the game into extra inning.
Ashlyn Kennedy (New London, N.C.) belted an RBI double in the top of the seventh to bring the Falcons to within 4-3.
Emma Chopko then flied out to right field, allowing Kennedy to tag from third to tie the game at 4-4.
Pfeiffer then took control in the top of the eighth, plating five runs. Bullin, Kennedy and
Kyndle Warren (Lenoir, N.C.) had consecutive doubles followed by a Mickles single that put runners on second and third following the throw home. Chopko then delivered a two-RBI single that provided the 9-4 score.
Guilford did scratch out a run in the home half of the eighth inning, but a groundout and a lineout ended the game.

The Falcons will travel to Brevard for a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 15. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
