Seniors Lift Pfeiffer Men's Basketball to 98-76 Win Over William Peace

Seniors Lift Pfeiffer Men's Basketball to a 98-76 Win Over William Peace

Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 8, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team had five players score in double figures, with all being seniors, in a 98-76 USA South win over visiting William Peace University on Tuesday night at Merner Gym.

The Falcons, playing in their second game in two days, turned a tie game at halftime into a runaway in the second half.

Leading 58-55 at the 14:36 mark of the second half, Pfeiffer used a 9-0 run capped by a three-pointer from senior Taylan Rowe (Oakboro, N.C.) to take the 67-55 lead. The Falcons then boosted the cushion to 71-57 after a pair of Jerome Savoy (Waldorf, Md.) free throws at 10:57.

WPU would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way, with Pfeiffer running away to the 98-76 win.

Rowe led all Pfeiffer scorers with 19 points while fellow seniors Savoy, Sean Scott (Waldorf, Md.) and Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) each finishing with 18 points.  D.J. Bradsher (Burlington, N.C.) was the other Falcon senior in double-digits, as he chipped in 10 points on the night.  Sabb also led Pfeiffer with a team-best nine rebounds.

Nick Ruggiero (Harrisburg, N.C.) continued his stellar play off the bench, as he scored seven points on a 3-of-3 outing from the field that included one from long range.  He also had a pair of rebounds

Perhaps the highlight of the night came late in the second half when reserve player Jackson Koontz (Winston-Salem, N.C.) found himself all alone after a Pacer turnover and flushed a two-handed dunk that got the Merner Gym crowd of students into a frenzy in the waning seconds of the game.

The win improves Pfeiffer to 9-8 overall and 6-3 in USA South play while the loss sends WPU to 5-15 overall and 2-8 in league play.

Pfeiffer will now turn their attention to hosting Mary Baldwin in a key USA South game on Friday night.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Merner Gym.
