Pfeiffer Softball Wins Two USA South Games at Methodist

Fayetteville, N.C. (March 30, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University softball team continued their hot play by winning a pair of USA South road games at Methodist University on Tuesday afternoon at Price Field in Fayetteville, N.C.

The Basics
Game 1 – Pfeiffer def. Methodist, 10-5
Game 2 – Pfeiffer def. Methodist, 11-3 (5 innings)

How it Happened – Game 1
Homestanding Methodist took an early 2-0 lead and held it until the sixth inning, but Pfeiffer exploded for 10 runs in the frame to take the commanding lead.

Freshman Gracie Griffin started the Falcon sixth with an RBI double to the left center gap that scored Kyndell Warren.  Fellow freshman Emma Chopko followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

A sacrifice fly from Caiti Mickles gave Pfeiffer the 3-2 lead and Hannah Tyner made it 4-2 with an RBI single to shortstop.

Hailey Strange, Ashlynn Kennedy and Mattie Hinson each had RBI singles in the inning, the latter by Hinson made it 8-2.  Another Griffin single drove in two more runs for the Falcons, making it 10-2.

Methodist battled back with a three runs in the Monarch sixth inning but could get no closer and Pfeiffer sat the Monarchs down in order in the seventh inning to take the 10-5 win.

Strange earned the pitching win for the Falcons to improve to 2-1 on the season.  She pitched 1.2 innings and struck out four Monarch batters.

Game 2
In game two, Pfeiffer struck for three runs in the second inning to bolt to the 3-0 lead.  RBI singles from Kennedy and Griffin did the damage for the Falcons.

The lead expanded to 6-0 in the third inning on a pair of RBI singles from Chopko and Mickles.  Methodist did plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it 6-2.

A Warren double allowed two more runs to cross for the Falcons in the fourth followed by a sacrifice fly from Griffin and another double, this time from Chopko put Pfeiffer up 10-2.

After Methodist made it 10-3 in the fourth, Alexis Walter put Pfeiffer up 11-3 with an RBI single up the middle that scored Hinson.

Kennedy earned the complete-game win for Pfeiffer, improving her record to 8-1 on the season.  She struck out seven Monarch batters on the afternoon while issuing just one walk.

Pfeiffer will return to Misenheimer and will step out of conference play when they host Carolina University at Jack Ingram Field on Wednesday, March 30.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
