Pfeiffer Softball Wins USA South East Division With DH Sweep of William Peace
Misenheimer, N.C. (April 20, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University softball team won both ends of a USA South doubleheader over William Peace University at
Jack Ingram Field on Wednesday afternoon, claiming the USA South East Division Title for the second consecutive season.

How it Happened – Game 1
The Falcons wasted no time in jumping on the William Peace pitching, as three runs were plated in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from freshman
Emma Chopko and a two-RBI single from senior
Caiti Mickles.
Mickles added a sacrifice fly in the third inning to boost the lead to 4-0.
Things unraveled for the visiting Pacers in the fifth following an error that allowed an unearned run to score, making to 5-0. RBI singles from
Mattie Hinson and
Hannah Tyner pushed the lead to 7-0. Ashlynn Kennedy then hit a sharp single down the right field line that scored Tyner and ending the game via run-rule at 8-0.
Kennedy was brilliant in the circle, as she tossed the complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits while striking out a pair of Pacer batters.

Game 2
In game two, Mickles started things off again for the Falcons when she laced a double to right-center that allowed
Kyndell Warren to race home for the 1-0 lead.
WPU tied the game in the second when they scored on an Anna Suggs groundout, making it 1-1.
A Kennedy RBI single in the second inning regained the 2-1 lead for Pfeiffer and in the fifth inning,
Mattie Hinson would reach on an error by the WPU shortstop that allowed
Adison Campbell to score to push the lead to 3-1.
In the sixth inning, freshman
Gracie Griffin then ripped a single up the middle to score Warren to make it 4-1.
Mickles would pick up the pitching win, improve to 5-4 on the season while Kennedy retired the Pacers in order in the seventh to earn her third save of the season, sending the Falcons to the doubleheader sweep.

Pfeiffer will close out USA South play this upcoming Saturday, April 23 against Southern Virginia at
Jack Ingram Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game, Pfeiffer will honor the seniors who will be playing in the final regular-season home games.
Following a nonconference doubleheader against Ferrum College on Monday, April 25, Pfeiffer will serve as host to the USA South Divisional Tournament on April 28-30.
More tournament information will be released following the completion of the regular season.
