Women's Soccer Gets Big 6-1 Road Win at Sweet Briar

AMHERST, Va. – Tori Renna's goal just 1:55 into the match set the tone as Pfeiffer University's women's soccer team trounced Sweet Briar College 6-1 at Amherst County High School.

The six goals are the most Pfeiffer has scored since an 8-0 decision over Mary Baldwin University on Oct. 12, 2019.

To put into perspective just how much dominant the Falcons were on offense, Pfeiffer tallied 50 shots, 25 shots on goal and six corner kicks compared to four shots, three shots on goal and one corner kick for Sweet Briar.

Ten different Falcons tallied shots including 11 by Kelsy Esquivel and nine by Renna. Emma LaFave's goal at the 19:07 mark of the first half would prove to be the eventual game-winning goal as Pfeiffer (1-2) took at 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Kayla Blankenship led all scorers with two goals and an assist with the first goal being netter at 55:09 and her second at 79:34.
Blankenship's two goals were sandwiched around a Sweet Briar (0-3) goal at 67:32 and a mark by Pfeiffer's Abby Madera at 72:09 that was assisted by Maria Altamirano.

Esquivel would finally crack the scoreboard with less than two minutes remaining in the contest off an assist from Blankenship to set the final margin of 6-1.

Kaylee Ollis and Olivia Garver each recorded a save in net for Pfeiffer with the duo splitting time with Ollis playing in the first half and Garver in the second half.

UP NEXT: The Falcons return to N.E. Lefko Field on Tues., Sept. 13 when they welcome in the Quakers of Guilford College. Kickoff for the Pride Match is slated for 6 p.m.
