No. 11 Christopher Newport Defeats Pfeiffer Men's Soccer

Newport News, Va. (Sept 11, 2021) – Christopher Newport University, the 11^th ranked team in Division III, used three first half goals and added two more in the second half to take a 5-0 win over Pfeiffer University on Sunday afternoon in Newport News Va.

The match was called at 73:38 due to lightning in the area.

How It Happened
CNU scored in the 21^st minute to go up 1-0 on a Kyle Stenzel goal that was assisted by Matt Liss.  The Captains grabbed the 2-0 lead in the 37^th minute off a header off a left side header from Asher Kuzemka.  The final goal of the half came at 44:26 when L.B. Sutton deposited a shot past Pfeiffer goalkeeper Ali Jaafar (Matthews, N.C.) in the right pocket of the goal.

After halftime the CNU lead would grow to 4-0 on a Barry Jones strike with assists from Elton Quintanilla and Stenzel off a cross.

The final goal of the afternoon came in the 72^nd minute on an unassisted goal from Kobe Smith.

CNU outshot Pfeiffer 22-3 and kept Pfeiffer from attempting a corner kick in the match.

Branson Adams, Juan Cabrera and Ryan Jordan each had a shot for Pfeiffer in the loss while Jaafar made three saves in goal.
