Pfeiffer Volleyball Splits a Pair of Home Matches

Misenheimer, N.C. (Sept. 3, 2021) – Playing in their home opening matches, Pfeiffer University split a pair of matches against ODAC foes, downing Guilford College 3-1 and falling to Randolph by a 3-2 final.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – Pfeiffer vs. Guilford
Pfeiffer got 15 kills from senior Madison Honeycutt (Arroyo Grande, Cal.) and 10 from junior Mattie Hinson (Norwood, N.C.) in the win.  The Falcons hit for a .266 percentage in the match while Guilford hit for a .176 clip.

Honeycutt also finished with five aces.

Defensively, Matttie Burris (Misenheimer, N.C.) had three blocks while freshman Madison Tate (Lexington, N.C.) had a pair.  Honeycutt also led Pfeiffer with eight digs.

Setters Kylee Mayberry (Harmony, N.C.) and Kira Suttles (Morganton, N.C.) finished with 20 and 19 assists, respectively in the win.

Guilford's Paige McDonald had a match-best 16 kills and had three aces.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – Pfeiffer vs. Randolph
Visiting Randolph took a hard-fought 3-2 win over Pfeiffer in the final match of the day.  Randolph won the opening set 25-22 while Pfeiffer won set two by a 25-21 score.  Randolph then took set three 25-23 while Pfeiffer forced the deciding set after winning set four by a 25-22 scored.

Randolph then took the match with a 15-12 win in the deciding frame.

Honeycutt once again led the way for Pfeiffer with 16 kills while Hinson added 12.  Freshman Faith Miller (Clover, S.C.) also added 11 in the loss.

Randolph had 14 kills from Tomi-Lauren McGinnis.  Brooke Finnerty had 12 while teammate Logan Warren had 10.

Pfeiffer will return to play on Sept. 9-10 at the William Peace/Meredith Invitational in Raleigh, N.C.  Pfeiffer will take on host WPU and Berea on Friday, Sept. 9 and will follow that with a pair or matches on Sept. 10 against Maryville College and Lynchburg.
