Raleigh, N.C. (Oct. 14, 2023) --The Pfeiffer volleyball team earned a USA South split on Saturday afternoon, downing Southern Virginia 3-2 and falling to host Meredith 3-0 in a pair of USA South matches at Weatherspoon Gym on the Meredith College campus..
The conference split improved Pfeiffer's record to 7-12 overall and 2-10 in USA South action.
Against SVU, the Falcons offense was paced by Mattie Hinson, who finished with 12 kills on the day, and by Morgan Shrader, who had 11. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Gabby Edwards had 17 and Karmen Rion had 10.

SET 1 | The Falcons took control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-11. Pfeiffer opened up its biggest lead, 14 points, to close out the set. Pfeiffer also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Pfeiffer won the second set 25-23 to promptly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Falcons earned the set victory powered by a solid showing on the attacking end. Pfeiffer put together a .344 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands six times, the Falcons took control for good at 24-23 and rode that advantage to victory.
SET 3 | Pfeiffer saw its attempt at a sweep end when Southern Virginia took set three. The Falcons came up short by the score of 25-20. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as seven points as Southern Virginia grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Knights took over the lead.
SET 4 | Pfeiffer then dropped their second straight set 25-18 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Falcons trailed by as many as seven points as Southern Virginia grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 and Pfeiffer wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up 10 times before the Knights took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 5 | Pfeiffer needed a fifth set to win the match. After they jumped out to an early two sets to none lead, Southern Virginia responded to take the third and fourth sets before the Falcons finished off their victory with a 15-12 fifth-set win. The Falcons took set five thanks to a strong showing on the attacking side. Pfeiffer put together a .529 attack percentage with nine kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands four times, the Falcons took control for good at 9-8 and rode that advantage to victory.
Against host Meredith, Summer Matthews finished with four kills on the day to lead the Falcons attack. got 11 digs from Gabby Edwards to lead them defensively.
