Pfeiffer Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Southern Virginia, 11-9
Misenheimer, N.C. (April 10, 2023) – In a matchup of two USA South heavyweights, the homestanding Pfeiffer University men's lacrosse team took down the defending USA South champion Southern Virginia University Knights 11-9 to remain unbeaten at a sunny and cool Lefko Field on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Flacons got on the board first, with senior
Jaylin Jones racing through the Knight defense and catching Knight goalkeeper Caleb Brodie out of position to score at 10:40 of the first quarter to put Pfeiffer up 1-0.
Nick Pekins scored an unassisted goal at 2:43 to give Pfeiffer the 2-0 lead, but SVU scored their first goal of the game with 54 seconds remaining in the opening quarter to cut the lead to 2-1.
Three straight goals from Pfeiffer to start the second quarter gave the Falcons the 5-1 lead.Â

Zach DeFazio and Trevin King all scored in order during the three-goal outburst.
SVU's Peyton Merwin would get an unassisted score at 1:03 to provide the 5-2 halftime margin.
Pfeiffer then opened the third quarter with four straight goals to take the commanding 9-2 lead.
SVU mounted a comeback, scoring six unanswered goal through the remaining of the third quarter and in the mid-stages of the fourth quarter, pulling to 9-8.
DeFazio broke the scoring drought for the Falcons with a goal at 3:32 of the fourth on an assist from Jones. Becraft would add an insurance goal for Pfeiffer at 2:04 remaining to make it 11-8.
SVU was not finished, as Eric Norr scored on an assist from Sterling Thatcher for SVU's final goal of the game, with Pfeiffer winning 11-9.
With the win, Pfeiffer continues their best season in school history, improving to 12-0 overall and a perfect 4-0 in USA South play.  Â

Seven different Falcons scored in the game, with DeFazio and Becraft each scoring three.Â
Tucker Hill managed a team-high six ground balls on the afternoon while SVU's Jaydon Arnold also securing six ground balls.
Pfeiffer goalkeeper
Nate Woodhill was masterful in net, as he made 13 saves while facing 50 SVU shots. Pfeiffer also unleashed 50 shots on SVU goalkeeper Caleb Brodie, with Brodie coming away with 17 stops on the afternoon.
