SVU Slips Past Men's Tennis, 5-4

Southern Virginia Slips Past Pfeiffer Men's Tennis, 5-4

Misenheimer, N.C. (April 21, 2023) – Visiting Southern Virginia University won three of the six singles matches and two doubles matches to take a narrow 5-4 win over the Pfeiffer University men's tennis team on a hot Thursday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center.

THE BASICS
Pfeiffer took the 1-0 lead in doubles play as Benedikt Pfeiffer and Aleix Garrido won their No. 2 match by an 8-2 score.  SVU would take the Nos. 1 and 3 matches to lead 2-1 after doubles play.

In singles, Garrido and Pfeiffer put the Falcons ahead 3-2 with wins at Nos. 6 and 2.  Garrido won his No. 6 match 6-0, 6-2 with Pfeiffer claiming the 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2 match.

SVU won the No. 1 and No. 3 match to slide ahead of the Falcons at 4-3.  Pfeiffer Freshman Bogdan Stan tied the match at 4-4 with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

In the deciding match of the day, freshman Mateo Sonaglia dropped his No. 4 singles match to SVU's Spencer Knight by a 4-6, 7-5, 3-6 score, giving SVU the USA South win.

BACK ON COURT
The Falcons will play William Peace in their final USA South match of the regular season on Sunday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.
