Virginia Beach, Va. (Nov. 15, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team held Regent to just 16.7 percent from deep in a 2-for-12 shooting performance on the way to an 83-55 road win on Friday afternoon.
The Falcons (1-2) had five players score in double figures, led by senior Alexis Bynum, who had 15 points, four assists and two steals. Freshman Ava Hairston tacked on 14 points and four steals off the bench while sophomore Lola Cabiness-Ali helped out with her second double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Led by Bynum's three offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.
Pfeiffer forced 22 Regent turnovers converting those takeaways into 24 points. Hairston's lead Pfeiffer with four steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 5-3, Pfeiffer went on an 11-0 run with 6:25 left in the first quarter to take a 14-5 lead. The Falcons then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 24-15 advantage. Pfeiffer capitalized on seven turnovers in the period, turning them into eight points on the other end of the floor.
Pfeiffer kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 10-0 run starting at the 7:51 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Cabiness-Ali, to increase its lead to 35-16. The Falcons enjoyed a 41-25 advantage at halftime. Pfeiffer would dominate in the paint, scoring 12 of its 17 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Pfeiffer continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 53-33, punctuated by a three-pointer from Bynum to expand its lead further to 61-33 with 3:25 to go in the third.
The Falcons entered the fourth quarter with a 64-41 edge. Pfeiffer then took advantage of five turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.
Pfeiffer kept widening their lead, expanding it to 68-43, finished off by Kenadie Hudler's layup, to grow the lead to 73-43 with 6:49 to go remaining.
The Falcons cruised the rest of the way for the 83-55 win. Pfeiffer took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 16 of its 19 points in the paint.
