Winston-Salem, N.C. (Nov. 20, 2024) --The Pfeiffer University women's basketball dropped a 78-52 nonconference game to Carolina University on the road on Wednesday night at Williams Gym.
The Falcons (1-3) had two players score in double figures, led by freshman Ava Hairston, who had 19 points, three steals and three blocks. Senior guard Alexis Bynum added 11 points and four steals while sophomore Lola Cabaniss-Ali added four points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Led by Cabaniss-Ali's three offensive rebounds, Pfeiffer puleld down 11 offensive boards that resulted in 13 second chance points.
Pfeiffer also disrupting several Bruin shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Hairston's three rejections led the way individually for the Falcons.
How It Happened
Pfeiffer struggled out of the gate, falling behind 29-13 at the end of the first quarter as the Bruins had the hot hand early.
The Falcons continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 38-19 halftime deficit.
Following halftime, Pfeiffer went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Cabaniss-Ali, to trim the deficit to 40-26 with 6:44 to go in the third. Carolina University then countered, stretching their lead to 57-36 heading into the fourth.
The home-standing Bruins kept widening their lead in the fourth,and tool the 78-52 win.
