No. 18 Pfeiffer Softball Records Two Shutout Wins at Ferrum

GAME 1
Pfeiffer def. Ferrum, 15-0

FERRUM, Va. (March 12, 2024) -- The Pfeiffer University softball team, ranked 18th in the latest NFCA Coaches Poll secured a pair of shutout road wins on Tuesday afternoon, downing Ferrum by scores of 15-0 and 12-0

In game one, senior Kali Morton continued her dominace in the circle by throwing a two-hit shutout to lead the Pfeiffer Falcons over the Ferrum Panthers 15-0.

Morton (7-0) went the distance for Pfeiffer (17-0), giving up two hits, walking two and striking out eight Panther batters.

Junior Kenzi Lyall led the way offensively going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, a home run and two RBI. Senior Ellie McHone hit her second home run of the season while finishing with three RBI. Sophomore Charly Cooper also helped out, going 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a one-run groundout off the bat of Cooper.

The Falcons then tacked on runs in four more innings, with their biggest output coming in the second when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run error off the bat of Cooper.

GAME NOTES

» Morton tossed a two-hit shutout for the Falcons.
» Morton struck out eight Panthers hitters.
» The Falcons power output was led by Lyall, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» Cooper and McHone drove in three runs each for the Falcons. » Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed five runs across.

GAME 2 | Pfeiffer 12, Ferrum 0

In game two, Lyall and fellow junior Emma Bullin combined to throw a shutout in the 12-0 win.

Lyall (8-0) started and picked up the win for Pfeiffer (18-0), going three shutout innings while giving up just two hits, walking two, and striking out four. Bullin was dealing out of the bullpen as well, tossing a pair of shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.

Junior Emma Chopko led the way offensively for the Falcons, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and three RBI. McHone furnished game two at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and three RBI.

Junior Alyssa Broaddus also chipped in, going 2-for-2 for with a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up 10 runs, including a two-run single off the bat of McHone and a two-run single from Chopko.

The Falcons also added runs in the fourth and fifth innings on the way to the 12-0 victory.
