Pfeiffer Men's Tennis Goes Unbeaten in Hilton Head
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 9, 2024)– The Pfeiffer University men's tennis team won all three matches over the past week during their annual spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C.
The Falcons opened play in the Palmetto State on March 3 with a 6-3 win over Baldwin Wallace. Pfeiffer took all three points in doubles play to go up 3-0 and followed with wins from
Jayden Wellman at No. 3 singles, Andrews Valdez-Arze at No. 5 and
Laurin Rauer at No. 6. All won their matches in straight sets.
On March 4, Pfeiffer continued play with an 8-1 win over Penn State Harrisburg at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort. Against the Lions, the Falcons won all three doubles matches and five of the six contested singles matches.
Among with winners were freshman
Jayden Wellman at No. 2,
Mateo Sonaglia at No. 3,
Laurin Rauer at No. 4,
Bogdan Stan at No. 5 and senior
Caleb Phillips at No. 6. All of the Pfeiffer wins were in straight sets.
The Falcons also took a 7-2 win over Gordon College later in the afternoon on March 4. Once again, Pfeiffer took all three doubles matches.
Matthius Dessureau won in a marathon match at No.2 (6-2, 1-6, 1-0) while Wellman,
Dylan Masters won in straight sets.Â
Andres Valdez-Arze won his match at No. 5 by an 8-2 score.
Pfeiffer's match on March 6 against Randolph was rained out and has been postponed. The two teams will attempt to make up the match later in the spring.
With the three wins, Pfeiffer improves to 4-2 overall in dual matches.
The Falcons will jump into USA South play on Friday, March 15 with a road match at USA South favorite N.C. Wesleyan at 2:00 p.m.
