Newport News, Va. (May 16, 2024) -- The Pfeiffer University softball team dropped their opening game of the NCAA Division III Regional to Ramapo College by an 8-4 score on Thursday afternoon at Captains Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
Junior Emma Chopko put together a stellar outing at the plate by hitting a pair of home runs.
Fellow junior Junior Kenzi Lyall (13-1) took the loss in the circle for the Falcons after pitching one inning while giving up two runs on a pair of hits..
Chopko went 2-for-3 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with three RBIs. Freshman Emily Dickerson added to Pfeiffer's power-hitting performance by going 2-for-4 with a solo home run.
Sophomore Charly Cooper also chipped in for the Falcons, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Pfeiffer scored two runs on solo shots from Chopko and Dickerson.
The Roadrunners expanded their lead to 4-2 before the Falcons offense got back to work, tying it up in the fifth. Pfeiffer scored twice on Chopko's two-run homer, which evened the score at 4-4. Ramapo then scored four times over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 8-4 win.
