Morton Hurls No-Hitter to Send Pfeiffer to USA South Championship Series

MISENHEIMER, N.C. --Senior Kali Morton tossed a no-hitter to lead the No. 13 Pfeiffer Falcons past the William Peace Pacers 8-0, sending the Falcons to the USA South Championship Series.

Morton improved to 22-1 on  the season to her outstanding performance. The right-hander struck out one abtter and walked just one for Pfeiffer (41-2) on her way to the record books.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of junior Kenzi Lyall.

The Falcons also added a run in the fifth inning to complete their scoring in the ballgame.

GAME NOTES

» Morton tossed a zero-hit shutout for the Falcons.
» Every Pfeiffer starter reached base safely in the win.
» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed seven runs across.
» Pfeiffer took a 7-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
» The Falcons out-hit the Pacers at a 9-0 clip.
» Pfeiffer went 6-for-7 (.857) with runners in scoring position.

Pfeiffer def. Mary Baldwin, 4-1

In the first game of the day, the Falcons took a 4-1 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels on Friday in the USA South Tournament.

Senior Kali Morton (21-1) got the win for Pfeiffer (40-2). The right-hander went four innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing four walks and striking out three. Junior Emma Bullin started the ballgame and went three shutout innings while allowing four hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Pfeiffer's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of freshman Emily Dickerson. The score remained 4-1 for the rest of the game, as the Falcons held on for the win.

» Pfeiffer's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed four runs across.
» The Falcons had control of the rest of the game after moving ahead of the Fighting Squirrels 4-1 in the bottom of the second.
» Pfeiffer went 2-for-5 (.400) with runners in scoring position.

The Falcons will host the USA South Championship Series on Friday, May 11-12.  Pfeiffer will host the winner of Saturday's deciding game of Bracket No. 2 between the host and second-seeded Greensboro Pride and the seventh-seeded Meredith Avenging Angels.
