WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Salem College defeated Pfeiffer University 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-14, 25-16) in the first round of the USA South Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday night at the Athletics Complex in Winston-Selem, N.C.
Salem (27-6) leaned on a balanced attack, hitting .291 with 64 kills. Aspen Bradley led the Spirits with 24 kills and a .382 hitting percentage, while Ellie Scherer added 11 kills. Setter Leah Rymer dished out 49 assists and contributed 14 digs. Madison Bozarth anchored the defense with 23 digs and four service aces.
Pfeiffer (15-16) drew even at 1-1 after claiming the second set behind clutch serving from senior
Haedyn McGrath, who finished with five aces and 12.5 points. Fellow senior
Madison Tate paced the Falcons with 13 kills and a .407 hitting percentage, while
Faith Miller chipped in eight kills and three blocks. Libero
Gabby Edwards led Pfeiffer with 26 digs.
Salem dominated the final two sets, limiting Pfeiffer to hitting percentages under .100. The Spirits recorded seven aces and 99 digs overall, while Pfeiffer managed seven aces and seven team blocks.
With the win, third-seeded Salem advances to the USA South Volleyball Tournament semifinals where they will take on second-seeded Southern Virginia.
Pfeiffer concludes their 2025 season, finishing at 15-16 overall.
