Pfeiffer Falls to Methodist in Penalty Shootout in USA South Semifinals
MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Nov. 5, 2025) — The Pfeiffer University men's soccer team fell to Methodist University in a dramatic penalty shootout following a scoreless double-overtime draw at Lefko-Mills Field on Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament
Despite dominating possession and outshooting the Monarchs 10-8, Pfeiffer (13-0-4, 5-0-2) couldn't find the back of the net through 110 minutes of regulation and overtime. Methodist (6-3-11, 1-0-6) held firm defensively, with goalkeeper Trey Gohr recording four saves en route to a clean sheet.
Pfeiffer's sophomore goalkeeper
Seth Limbert matched Gohr's performance with four saves of his own, including three in the second half, preserving the deadlock and sending the match into a shootout.
In the penalty shootout, Methodist converted all four of its attempts, with Steven Floyd, Josh Mott, Cameron Lambert, and Carson Stretz each finding the net. Pfeiffer managed just two successful kicks, with
Juan Cabrera and
Barrett Owens scoring, while
Alex Michael and
Nico Cantini missed their chances.
Wesley Hooker led Pfeiffer's attack with seven shots, three on goal, but was unable to break through Gohr's defense. The Falcons also earned six corner kicks and committed 15 fouls, while Methodist had five corners and 16 fouls.
Pfeiffer completes the 2025 season with a 13-0-4 overall record while going 5-0-2 in USA South play, earning the USA South Regular Season Championship.
