MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Feb. 14, 2026) — Pfeiffer University claimed an early point in doubles play, but Virginia Wesleyan dominated singles action to secure a 6–1 nonconference win Saturday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center.
Pfeiffer (3-1) opened the dual with a strong showing at the No. 1 doubles line, where
Jayden Wellman and
Valter Albuquerque rolled to a 6-2 victory over Virginia Wesleyan's Jed Platts and Sebastien Muller. But the Marlins answered quickly, taking the No. 2 and 3 matches by identical 6–3 and 6–4 margins to secure the doubles point.
Virginia Wesleyan (4-1) carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. Pfeiffer's lone singles victory came at the No. 6 position, where
Hugo Kezen posted a straight-sets win over Hovo Madanyan, 6-4, 6-3.
Several Falcons pushed their matches deep, including
Jayden Wellman, who battled to three sets at No. 3 before falling 5–7, 6–1, 7–6 to Tudor Vlad. At No. 2,
Aissultan Mukhambetov forced a deciding set but came up short against Avaan Choudhary, losing 6-4, 4-6, 1-0.
The Marlins sealed the overall victory with straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 4, and 5. Pfeiffer's
Aden Burgoyne and
Bogdan Stan each dropped their matches in two sets.
Pfeiffer will return toplay on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they host Belmont Abbey in an exhibition match at the Knapp Tennis Center.
