MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Tiger Hopkins scored four goals, including a pair in the fourth quarter, as Pfeiffer rallied past Illinois Wesleyan 12–10 in a nonconference men's lacrosse game on a sunny but chilly Tuesday afternoon at Lefko-Mills Field.
Illinois Wesleyan (5–4) started fast, striking five times in the opening period and taking a 5–2 lead after 15 minutes. Jake Kahoun had three goals for the Titans, including a first-quarter man-up finish and another in the second to help IWU maintain a 6–5 edge at halftime.
Pfeiffer (7–2) surged back with a five-goal second quarter, highlighted by scores from Hopkins,
Bashwyn Fitch,
Davis Palombo and
Trent Orr. The Falcons briefly took a 7–5 advantage before IWU answered late in the half.
After entering the fourth trailing 10–9, Pfeiffer locked down defensively while
Ethan Miles tied it at 10 with 12:07 remaining. Hopkins delivered the go-ahead goal at 7:47, then added a man-up insurance tally with 2:03 left—his fourth of the day—to seal the victory.
Miles finished with a hat trick and one assist, while
Dylan Sullivan added two goals and two assists for Pfeiffer. Goalkeeper
Korbin Hamilton recorded 15 saves.
Illinois Wesleyan's Owen Miller scored twice and assisted two more, and goalkeeper Jaymeson Zackery stopped 17 shots.
Pfeiffer held a 44–41 edge in shots and won 13 of 22 faceoffs.
With the nonconference season complete, the Falcons will jump back into USA South play on Saturday, March 21, as they host rival Greensboro College at 11:00 a.m. on Senior Day at Lefko-Mills Field.
