MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Sept. 1, 2026) —
Wesley Hooker and
Benji Landaverde each scored twice as Pfeiffer opened its 2026 men's soccer season with a commanding 5-1 victory over Guilford on a hot and muggy Tuesday night at Lefko-Mills Field.
The win is the third straight over the Quakers and extends Pfeiffer's unbeaten streak against them, which dates back to 2017. Additionally, the five goals is the most scored by the Falcons over Guilford in the series history.
The Falcons (1-0) took control early and never looked back, scoring four first-half goals and outshooting the Quakers 18-12 overall. Hooker ignited the offensive outburst with goals in the 19th and 22nd minutes, staking Pfeiffer to a 2-0 lead. His first goal came off an assist from Landaverde at 18:13, and he added another less than four minutes later on a feed from
Barrett Owens.
Pfeiffer continued to press the attack as
Drew Garro found the back of the net in the 35th minute following another assist from Owens. Just under three minutes later, Landaverde converted an assist from
Aiden Dualan to give the Falcons a 4-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Falcons added one more goal midway through the second half when Landaverde scored unassisted in the 66th minute, extending the lead to 5-0.
Guilford avoided the shutout late in the match as Ken Vasquez scored in the 88th minute off an assist from Talan Coogle.
Landaverde finished with two goals and an assist, while Hooker added two goals on six shots. Owens contributed two assists in the season-opening win.
In goal,
Seth Limbert made seven saves for Pfeiffer, which placed 13 of its 18 shots on target. Guilford goalkeepers Xavier Porter and Ildis Vital-Peraza combined for eight saves.
Pfeiffer held a 13-8 edge in shots on goal and a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks while improving to 1-0 on the season. Guilford dropped to 0-1
Pfeiffer will return to play on Saturday, Sept. 4 when they host Averett for a nonconference match at 6:00 p.m.
