MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Sept. 26, 2026) — Despite controlling the run of play and outshooting its opponent by a wide margin, Pfeiffer suffered a 1-0 USA South women's soccer setback to N.C. Wesleyan on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Lefko-Mills Field.
The Falcons generated numerous scoring opportunities throughout the match, finishing with a 13-3 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in shots on goal, but could not solve Battling Bishops goalkeeper Grace Walls, who recorded nine saves and preserved the shutout.
Pfeiffer's best chance came midway through the first half when
Quinn Branca earned a penalty kick in the 22nd minute. Walls came up with a crucial save on the attempt, and the Falcons were unable to capitalize on the ensuing rebound opportunity despite maintaining pressure.
The match remained scoreless until the 66th minute when Peyton Staub found the back of the net off an assist from Mckayla Farrow at the 65:28 mark, giving N.C. Wesleyan a 1-0 lead. The goal proved to be the game-winner and was Staub's first tally of the season.
Pfeiffer continued to push forward in search of the equalizer. The Falcons earned nine corner kicks and created several quality chances in the second half, including shots by
Lily Bido,
Corinne Browning, and
Jade Watts that were turned away by Walls. Branca nearly tied the contest in the 74th minute when her shot struck the left post.
Bido led Pfeiffer with three shots, while Browning, Branca,
Khamani Spencer, Watts and
Melania Martinez each recorded two attempts.
Defensively, goalkeeper
Jerusalen Gonzalez made one save for the Falcons, who limited N.C. Wesleyan to just three total shots in the match.
With the loss, Pfeiffer moved to 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-0 in USA South Conference play, while N.C. Wesleyan improved to 3-3-2 overall and 1-2-0 in conference action.
