Late Goal Lifts N.C. Wesleyan Past Pfeiffer, 2-1

MISENHEIMER, N.C. (Sept. 26, 2026) — Pfeiffer carried a second-half lead but could not hold off a late rally from N.C. Wesleyan, falling 2-1 in a USA South men's soccer match Saturday evening at Lefko-Mills Field.

The Falcons struck first in the 59th minute when Jaiden Wright found the back of the net off an assist from Barrett Owens. Wright's second goal of the season gave Pfeiffer a 1-0 advantage at the 58:08 mark.

Pfeiffer controlled much of the offensive action throughout the night, finishing with a 10-5 advantage in shots and limiting the Battling Bishops to just one shot on goal during the opening half.

N.C. Wesleyan responded in the 69th minute when Riccardo Baisi scored the equalizer at 68:25, knotting the match at 1-1.

The Falcons nearly regained the lead moments later. Following a pair of corner kicks, Alex Michael put a shot on target in the 70th minute, but the effort was stopped to keep the match level.

The Battling Bishops seized the lead with 6:24 remaining when substitute Mikkel Christensen converted a scoring chance off assists from Santiago Calvo Lovera and Edras Turcios Valle. The goal at 83:36 proved to be the match-winner.

Pfeiffer pushed forward in the closing minutes but could not find a late equalizer. The Falcons finished with 10 shots, including attempts from Michael, Owens, Wright and several others, while goalkeeper Seth Limbert recorded one save.

Wright led the Falcons with their lone goal, while Owens added an assist. Michael paced the team with two shots, including one attempt on goal.

With the loss, Pfeiffer moved to 4-2-1 overall and 0-1 in USA South play while N.C. Wesleyan improved to 3-2-3 overall and 1-0.
