CARY, N.C. (Sept. 30, 2026) – Pfeiffer nearly erased a two-goal second-half deficit, but a late push came up just short as the Falcons dropped a 3-2 USA South men's soccer match to William Peace on Wednesday night at WakeMed Soccer Park.
Pfeiffer (4-3-1, 0-2 USA South) outshot William Peace 19-11 and held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal, but the Pacers capitalized on their opportunities to earn the conference victory.
William Peace struck first in the 14th minute when Roberto Rayo finished a chance off an assist from Gabriel Faria Jr. for a 1-0 lead. Pfeiffer answered just over two minutes later as defender Erick Campos-Marquez found the back of the net in the 16th minute, leveling the score at 1-1 with his first goal of the season.
The hosts regained the advantage in the 23rd minute when Eder Acevedo Delgado scored to give William Peace a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
After the break, Rayo added what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 58th minute, converting a pass from Tambe Mboumien to extend the Pacers' lead to 3-1.
Pfeiffer continued to pressure the William Peace defense throughout the second half, generating 11 shots after intermission. The Falcons broke through again in the 80th minute when Wesley Hooker scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season off an assist from Celeb Yopp, trimming the deficit to 3-2.
The Falcons pushed for the equalizer in the closing minutes, earning a corner kick in the 86th minute and creating several dangerous chances, but could not find the tying goal before the final whistle.
Hooker finished with three shots and two shots on goal, while Drew Garro recorded four shots and two shots on frame. Campos-Marquez added two shots and a goal, and Yopp contributed an assist.
In goal, Seth Limbert made five saves for the Falcons. William Peace goalkeeper Dallas Story stopped six shots to preserve the victory.
Pfeiffer held advantages in shots (19-11), shots on goal (8-6) and corner kicks (5-2), but William Peace converted three of its six shots on target to secure the conference win.
