| Misenheimer, NC---Matt Harris scored the winning goal in overtime to cap a thrilling comeback by the Falcons and give them a 4-3 win over visiting UNC-Pembroke Friday afternoon. UNC-Pembroke led 3-0 with 15 minutes to go when the Falcons broke loose scoring three goals in seven minutes to tie th game and set the stage for  Harris' game winner in overtime. The first half was a midfield battle. Both defenses played solid and neither team could maintain possession for any length of time. At halftime it was 0-0 as each team had only two shots. The second half was a whole different ballgame. UNC-Pembroke came out on fire and scored three goals in the first eight minutes to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Thomas Morrow took a pass from Andrew Brown and put a shot into the right corner of the goal to give Pembroke a 1-0 lead less then two minutes into the half. One minute later Brown scored to give Pembroke a 2-0 lead. Another Brown to Morrow pass lead to the third goal five minutes later as the Braves grabbed a 3-0 advantage. The Pembroke defense had been running an offsides trap all game and with fifteen minutes left the Falcons started timing their runs right and an offensive explosion occured. In the 76th minute Mario Garcia sent a pass to a breaking Matt Harris who calmly slid the ball under the charging goalie to give Pfeiffer their first goal of the game. Less then two minutes later Renato Barbosa tok a Davi Lorenzo pass and scored from eight yards out as the Falcons cut the Pembroke lead to 3-2. With less then eight minutes to go Cash Knight broke down the right sidelines and crossed the ball to the far post, Matt Harris headed the ball back across the face of the goal and Davi Lorenzo knocked it in to tie the game at 3. Pfeiffer pressed hard the final seven minutes but couldn't end it in regulation. The Falcons continued the pressure in oertime and a little over three minutes in it paid off with Matt Harris' game winning goal. Davi Lorenzo chipped the ball over a defender into Harris' path. The initial shot was stopped but on the rebound Harris slipped it into the empty net ending the incredible Falcon comeback. Pfeiffer will return to action Sunday when they host Francis Marion University at 3:00 pm. |
