Misenheimer, NC---In a battle of regionally ranked teams the Pfeiffer men's soccer team fell to St. Andrews Presbyterian by a score of 3-2 Thursday afternoon. Pfeiffer, ranked fourth in the region, falls to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference. St. Andrews, currently tenth in the region, is now 3-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Matt Harris continued his torrid scoring pace and put the Falcons in the lead in the fourth minute with his seventh goal on the season. Davi Lorenzo sent a through ball that Harris put past the keeper into the left side netting from 15 yards out to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Both defenses played well he rest of the half and the Falcons went into the break leading 1-0. The Knights quickly tied it up in the second half. Brian Humphrey hit a nice shot from 20 yards out that beat the Falcon keeper to tie the game at 1. Humphrey set up the next goal five minutes later when he sent a cross to Jerry Momoh in the front of the net and Momoh put it in from eight yards out to give St. Andrews a 2-1 lead. As they have all year the Falcons fough back. In the 68th minute Wilver Menacho beat his defender, dribbled down the left side and found Matt Denton at the far post with a cross and Denton tied it up at 2 with his first goal of the season. With eight minutes to go Chris Weedon, of the Knights, took the ball on the left side of goal, beat his defender and drilled one past Falcon keeper Alex Moreno to give St. Andrews a 3-2 lead. The Falcons pressed hard the last eight minutes but couldn't score and lost 3-2. Pfeiffer travels to Lincoln Memorial Saturday for a 2:00 pm game. |
