Oliver Notches Match Deciding Point for Lady Falcons; Men Cruise in Singles as Tennis Sweeps Carson-Newman 5-4 and 7-2

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University tennis claimed a pair of victories over visiting Carson-Newman College on Thursday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center. Briana Oliver secured the match-winning point at #5 singles as the Lady Falcons captured a 5-4 win while the men rolled 7-2. The Pfeiffer women are now 6-6 on the year while the men improve to 5-2.

After three doubles matches and five singles contests on the women's side, it all came down to Oliver and Megan Wilson of Carson-Newman. Oliver won 6-1, 6-3 in straight-sets to earn the match win for the Lady Falcons. Pfeiffer scored points in two of the three doubles matches while Alena Krutkina and Kayleigh Featherstone also won singles points along with Oliver. Krutkina cruised 6-2, 6-0 while Featherstone needed a three-set marathon, 7-6 (2), 2-6, 7-6 (5), for the victory.

On the men's side, Pfeiffer also notched two points in doubles action while rolling in singles tallying five of the six matches. Luis Villalta was the only Falcon who needed a third set for a win going 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 in number five singles. Stephen Tyndel, playing in the sixth spot, came up short in three falling 10-6 in his decisive set.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday traveling to Gardner-Webb for division one action at 1:30 p.m.
