MORROW, G.A. - A late first half penalty kick goal and insurance in the second half led North Georgia to a 3-1 victory over Pfeiffer University in men's soccer action on Saturday night. The Saints even to 1-1 with the victory while the Falcons drop to 0-2.
Gustavo Cunha put North Georgia on the board first in the 16th minute with a 25-yard shot that snuck inside the left post for a 1-0 lead. Just under 10 minutes later, Pfeiffer's Seth Dey would almost duplicate Cunha's goal after a short pass from Kyle Toler.
With 1:25 to play in the first half, Max Angel converted a penalty kick from the six-yard spot to put the Saints up for good 2-1. Insurance with 32 seconds left came from Juan Hurtado scoring on a deflection.
North Georgia led the shots category 17-9 while taking a 9-3 advantage in corners. Four of Pfeiffer's nine shots were on target. Zach Liles made six saves for the Falcons in the loss.
Pfeiffer will continune its season-opening four-game road trip at Lander on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
