MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Roberto Soares scored twice and Martim Galvao added two assists as the Pfeiffer men's soccer team (10-4, 6-2 CC) reached double digit victories for the second consecutive season with a 4-2 win over King (5-7, 3-3). The 10 wins by Pfeiffer equal its season total from last year and the Falcons have four regular season matches left.
On Senior Day, Pfeiffer scored the first three goals of the match to jump on the guests. Soares' first strike of the day came in the 15th minute as Niko Andrade lofted a free kick into the box that Soares sent into the bottom right corner of the goal. In the 33rd minute, Galvao recorded his first assist of the afternoon as he set up Paco Cortez just outside of the box. Cortez's shot found the top corner of the net to put Pfeiffer up two. With less than three minutes left in the first half, Nathan Regis recorded his conference-leading eighth assist as he pulled the keeper out of net and fed Soares for his sixth goal of the season. King would stop the bleeding with 57 seconds left in the first half when Eli Carrasco capitalized on a free kick and cut the lead to 3-1 heading into the break.
The Tornado drew closer just 1:48 into the second half as King scored on a Pfeiffer own goal. Carrasco took the corner and sent it into the box as a Pfeiffer defender's clearing attempt ended up in the back of the net, cutting the lead to 3-2. Fittingly, on senior day it was senior Luke Janes who delivered the backbreaker. In the 68th minute, Galvao found an open Janes in the middle of the box and the senior easily beat the keeper to seal the victory.
"We played a very good team today," said Head Coach Bob Reasso. "We were the cause of our own problems but you have to give them credit for being well coached. I'm sure they are going to do well down the stretch."
Nicolas Dulac made two saves to improve to 10-4 on the season. Kari Sveinsson made one save for the Tornado.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday as they host their final regular season match, a 4 p.m. clash with North Georgia.
