GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's tennis team (1-0) opened the 2014-15 season in dominating fashion, overpowering Guilford by a final score of 9-0.
It took less than three hours for the Falcons to earn the victory. In singles play, Pfeiffer didn't drop a single set as each player won their match in two sets. In the number one slot, Oscar Van Koch made his Pfeiffer debut with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Turner Votipka. Axel Woerner took an easy 6-0, 6-1 win in second singles and Bjorn Barwinski won in the third slot by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. David Weir, Sebastian Wernecke and Stephen Miller also cruised to victories in singles play.
On the doubles side, the first pair of Van Koch and Woerner dispatched of Guilford's number one duo 8-5. Barwinski and Wernecke won 8-4, while Weir and Jimmy Molina came away with an 8-5 decision.
It was the second straight season the men's tennis team has opened with a victory. In 2013, Pfeiffer topped Catawba 6-3 on Sept. 26 en route to a 13-5 season.
Pfeiffer returns to action this weekend as they travel to Sumter, SC to compete in the Palmetto Invitational.
