MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's soccer team (1-2, 0-1 CC) pushed the No. 5 Limestone Saints (3-0, 1-0) to the limit but ultimately fell by a final score of 5-4 on a warm and sunny afternoon at NE Lefko Field. Pfeiffer held three separate leads in the first half but Limestone battled back each time and ultimately took the lead for good in the 72nd minute.

Pfeiffer's dynamic duo of Nathan Regis (1 goal, 1 assist) and Jaime Siaj (2 goals) combined for seven points on the afternoon. Martim Galvao recorded his first career goal in the match.

Limestone was led by two goals from Jorge Mackenna and two assists from Vebjoern Olstad.

"It was a very good game and played an exceptional team," said Head Coach Bob Reasso. "We scored four goals today so we have some positives to take away. We are not defending well and made a lot of mistakes in the back. We know how to score goals now our job is to figure out a way not to give up goals."

Pfeiffer opened the scoring 1:59 into the match as Paco Cortez lofted a perfectly placed cross to the far post and Siaj did the rest. Limestone had the answer 1:32 later as William Picoux got the redirected ball and found the back of the net. Regis' first of the game gave Pfeiffer a 2-1 lead as senior Luke Janes was credited with the assist at the 15:10 mark. Pfeiffer dodged a bullet in 22nd minute as a Limestone goal was waived off because the Saints were offside. However, Mackenna did break through in the 31st minute as his header beat Pfeiffer's keeper Nicolas Dulac. The Falcons regained the lead 3:12 later as Mateo Garces-Yepes set up Galvao. Again Limestone had the answer with seven minutes to play in the first half on Mackenna's second strike.

The scoring slowed until the 72nd minute as Gui Machado broke the tie to give the Saints a 4-3 edge. With under 10 minutes in the match, Limestone's corner kick resulted in a Pfeiffer defender putting it in his own goal on the clearing attempt. 31 seconds later, Siaj scored his third of the season to cut the lead to one goal with 2:49 to play. However, Pfeiffer was unable to complete the comeback in the final moments and Limestone came away with the difficult victory.

"We kept fighting to the end and I'm very proud of our guys. They gave us a great effort," said Reasso.

The Saints held a 17-10 advantage in shots as each team took four corners in the match. Dulac recorded three saves in net and Tom Godfrey improved to 3-0 with his two saves.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they host USC-Aiken at 4 p.m.
