MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's volleyball team (0-12, 0-5 CC) put up a valiant effort but were outdueled by Mount Olive (4-9, 1-2) in Merner Gym on Friday night. Senior Kelly Lancellot recorded a game-high 14 kills in the match and junior Kelsey Blauser added 10.
The Falcons tied a season-high with 48 kills on the evening and their .140 hitting percentage was also a season best. Pfeiffer also recorded season highs in digs (76) and total blocks (8).
Haley Denny finished with a match-high 24 digs as the sophomore was flying all over the court on the defensive side of the net. Shenelle Charlot had 11 digs and Allison Rosas chipped in with 10 digs. Katie Wilson dished out 30 assists and Blauser notched two solo blocks and five assists.
The Trojans took the first set by a final of 25-15 and secured a tough win in the second frame, 27-25.
The Falcons faced a 22-19 deficit in the third set, forcing Head Coach Paul Lawson to call his second and final timeout of the set. Instead of giving in, the Falcons rallied in a major way as Blauser's monster kill ended a 6-1 run for Pfeiffer to claim a 25-23 victory. Freshman McKenzie McDonald recorded two kills in the final spurt for the Falcons.
Unfortunately, Pfeiffer ran out of gas in the fourth frame and dropped a 25-20 decision.
Denny's 24 digs were just one off her career-high, which came against Limestone in the 2013 regular season finale. Lancellot also nearly set a personal mark on the evening. The 14 kills were the second highest of her career, and the second time this season she reached that mark. Her career high is 19 kills against Barton in 2012.
Mount Olive was led by Sarah Robertson who finished with 13 kills on the evening. The trio of Robertson, Britni Johnson and Dezirae Mackey accounted for 35 of the Trojans 51 kills in the match. Johnson added 15 digs and Clara Ervin had two aces.
Pfeiffer returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they host Barton at 2 p.m.ÂÂ
