CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The No. 1 Pfeiffer men's soccer team (12-0) ran its winning streak to 12 games with a 3-1 victory over Queens (5-7) on Wednesday evening. Jaime Siaj scored two goals, Santi Moar added two assists and Martim Galvao had a goal and an assist for the Falcons.
"Queens is a very good team that's really well coached," said Head Coach Bob Reasso. "They played us very hard tonight. We made things difficult for ourselves because we gave away some fouls and we didn't finish our chances. We have to expect everyone to play this hard against us but at the end of the day, we won the game and that's what matters."
Pfeiffer wasted little time taking it to the hosts as Moar fed Galvao 21 seconds into the match to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage. In the 33rd minute, Siaj took a cross from Galvao and found the back of the net. The half would end with Pfeiffer holding a 2-0 lead and each team recording 10 shots.
Queens made it interesting early in the second half when Isaac Walker notched his second tally of the season to cut the lead in half in the 48th minute. Pfeiffer had a couple of great opportunities to seal the victory but narrowly missed each chance. In the 78th minute, Siaj wouldn't be denied and added the crucial third goal of the game off a cross from Moar to put the Falcons up by two. Queens wouldn't relent and were awarded a penalty kick in the final minutes. However, Tomas Correa dove to his right and made a great save to stop any thought of a comeback for the Royals.
Siaj finished the match with seven shots, putting five on frame. The Falcons held a 21-16 advantage in shots and a 9-2 lead in corner kicks. Correa improved to 3-0 on the season as he made seven stops filling in for injured keeper Nicolas Dulac.
The win is Pfeiffer's 17 straight regular season victory, dating back to Oct. 16 of last season. Over their final 31 matches, Pfeiffer owns a 28-2-1 record.
The Falcons look to stay hot on Saturday as they travel to Erksine for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
