DAHLONEGA, GA - The Pfeiffer baseball team (3-3) scored four runs in the third inning to erase a 3-0 deficit as the Falcons took game two of a three game set at North Georgia (1-2) by a final score of 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. Izzy Perez went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Tyler Lequire earned his first win on the season as he tossed three scoreless innings of relief.
The Nighthawks struck first in the contest, pushing three runs across in the bottom of the second. Pfeiffer starter Drew Wilson gave up a leadoff double but then retired the next two batters. However, a run-scoring double from Hoover and a two-run bomb by Crawford gave North Georgia the early advantage. Wilson would settle down and not allow a run over his next two innings.
The Falcons third at-bat would prove to be the game changer. Perez led off the inning with his second homer of the season, a big fly to center field. Jordan Eckard singled and Connor Baldy walked, putting men on first and second. After a strikeout, Cody McKenzie singled down the right field line, scoring Eckard. Seth Kimrey laced a double to left center which scored Baldy and tied the game. McKenzie would come across on a passed ball as the Falcons took the 4-3 lead.
Perez started a rally in the top of the fourth with his one out base hit and would come around to score on Baldy's RBI triple to right center.
Lequire silenced the Nighthawk bats for three innings and Hunter Jobe pitched a scoreless eighth, giving way to Kyle Hackney. With one out and the bases loaded, Hackney gave up a sacrifice fly to Bo Edwards, cutting the lead to 5-4. Hackney would strand the tying run at third base as he induced the final batter to ground out the shortstop to end the game.
Perez fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle for the Falcons, while Kimrey added his first stolen base of the year for the Falcons.
The rubber game of the three game series will take place tomorrow afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
