MISENHEIMER, NC- Tanner Mathis has a six-RBI game to give Pfeiffer their fifth conference victory in game one. The Pfeiffer Falcons (12-8, 5-2) scored six in the fourth leading to a five run victory over the King Tornado (5-12, 3-4). This fourth inning charge was ignited off a Dalton Lindley blast, followed by three singles and a double by Mathis. All the damage in the inning was done with two outs. King countered in the sixth and seventh to combine for five runs. Ryan Whitt and Moises Soto both had two hits in the game for the Tornado The Falcons would secure the win for Keith Little behind strong pitching by Zach Huneycutt and a three run sixth. A Mathis homerun would score Dylan Goodman and Xavier Rodriguez.Â
Game two found the Falcons in a pitcher's duel with King. Pfeiffer would jump out to a quick score in the first by combining a Cody McKenzie single and Izzy Perez double. King would counter in the third with three runs with two outs. Preston Douglas and Jake Portugal both found doubles in the inning to lead King to the win. McKenzie and Perez would both record two hits in four at bats for the Falcons. Tyler Lequire would pitch well, scattering six hits across seven and a third innings. However, the Pfeiffer bats would struggle to score as Alex Martin would collect his second win by striking out eight and giving up only one run.Â
Pfeiffer travels to Myrtle Beach for a pair of games on Monday and Tuesday. The Falcons first contest is against Lock Haven at 7 p.m.
