Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (10-7) couldn't overcome an 8-1 halftime deficit as they fell in the Conference Carolinas semifinal to the number two seeded Mount Olive (14-3) by a final score of 13-7 on a rainy and cold Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. Jacqueline Kennedy netted a hat trick for the Falcons and added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Mount Olive struck first in the game as Katie McGovern scored an unassisted goal just 1:57 into the contest. However, Pfeiffer's Cheyenne Green, who was named to the Second Team All-Conference prior to the game, scored on a free position shot to even the score at one. Unfortunately, the Trojans went on a scoring run to close out the first half as Mount Olive scored seven straight and kept Pfeiffer off the scoreboard for the final 26:50 of the first half to take a commanding lead.
The Trojans extended the lead to 9-1 to start the second half until Kennedy tallied her first strike of the game. After consecutive goals by Mount Olive, Pfeiffer scored five of the final seven goals in the contest but the comeback attempt ran out of time.
Cassidy Wilson made eight saves in goal to wrap up a solid junior season.
Mount Olive held a slim 28-26 advantage in shots on the day. Pfeiffer was unable to convert on free position shots, going just 2-for-10 on those opportunities. The Falcons held an advantage in ground balls (18-13) and Mount Olive had more turnovers (19-13) in the contest. The Trojans led in the key category of draw controls, securing eight more possessions than the Falcons.
Riann Daziel finished with four goals for Mount Olive and Alysha Kulka added three. Hannah Knight made 10 saves in goal to preserve the victory.
Prior to the game, Kristi Korn, Andrea Archila and Kennedy were named First Team All-Conference players. Also, Ashley West, Wilson, Green and Chalane Morrison were named to the Second Team.
Kristi Korn wraps up her brilliant career with the second highest total of career goals in school history. Her one score today meant she went an entire season with at least one goal scored in every game.
This season marks Pfeiffer's third straight year with at least 10 wins. However, the Falcons will miss the contributions of all eight seniors including Britton Muir who was unable to compete in her senior season due to an injury. Muir was a First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Region performer a season ago and was greatly missed on the field this year.
