GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Pfeiffer baseball team (22-15, 12-6 CC) dropped a slugfest against North Greenville (21-17, 11-8) by the final score of 14--11 on Friday night. The game was played at Fluor Field, the home of the Greenville Drive.
Cole McGraw went 2-for-5 with five RBI and Izzy Perez scored four runs but the Falcons gave up 17 hits to the host Crusaders.
Kyle Hackney was charged with the loss on the mound, as the righty was tagged for three earned runs in 1.2 innings of relief.
Pfeiffer started the scoring with two runs in their first at bat as Tanner Mathis stroked an RBI double, scoring Perez and Anthony Allende. However, the Crusaders answered with three in the bottom of the frame to take the lead.
Pfeiffer tied the game in the top of the second and then reclaimed the lead with a four-run top of the third. McGraw stepped to the plate with two runners on and crushed a home run that knocked the Crusaders starter from the game. Later in the inning, Dalton Lindley came around to score on an error for the final run of the inning.
Again, North Greenville had the answer as the Crusaders pushed across two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 7-5. Pfeiffer tacked on another run in the top of the fourth before the Crusaders delivered a crushing blow. Back-to-back two out doubles plated four runs to put the hosts back on top.
Pfeiffer clawed back in the top of the sixth on a McGraw RBI ground out and a Lindley RBI fielder's choice evened the score at 10. In the bottom half of the inning, North Greenville blew the game open with a homer by Shaquille Rolle which capped a three run inning.ÂÂ
Each team added a run in the seventh but would be kept off the scoreboard in the final two innings.
Five of Pfeiffer's 14 hits on the night went for extra bases. North Greenville pounded out 17 hits against the Pfeiffer staff, including two big flies.
The two team's will be right back in action tomorrow as they finish the three game series with an afternoon doubleheader starting at noon. The Crusaders would need a sweep to leap the Falcons in the Conference standings.
