MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The No. 25 Pfeiffer men's soccer team (3-0) won its first road match of the year as Jamie Siaj scored his fourth goal of the season to lead the Falcons past Chowan (3-1) on Thursday afternoon. The loss was the first of the year for the Hawks as the Falcons posted their second shutout of the season. Coming into the contest, Chowan had outscored opponents 12-0 and today's goal was the first they have given up this season.
For the game, Pfeiffer held a 24-18 advantage in shots, including an 11-6 lead in shots on goal. Nicolas Dulac made six saves to record his third win of the season and 15th career shutout. The Hawks were kept in the game by a brilliant effort from goalkeeper Marco Lujan who made nine saves.
Siaj struck in the 22nd minute for the eventual game-winner. Martim Galvao notched his fourth assist of the season as his pass found Siaj who chipped his shot over the goalie's head for the lone score of the contest.
Dulac, along with Pfeiffer's stellar back line, would do the rest. The junior keeper made back-to-back clutch saves in the 88th minute to preserve the victory.
Nathan Regis had another strong game as the junior fired eight shots, including four on goal. However, for the first time all season, Regis was kept without a point in the match. Siaj took nine shots, with five coming on goal.
"We won 1-0 but made heavy lifting out of a game that should have been easy," said Coach Reasso following the match. "Anytime you leave a team in the game late, they are always going to have chances. At the end of the day, it's a win and we'll move on."
The Falcons return to action on Sunday as they travel to Coker for a 5 p.m. match.
