Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. - For the second consecutive season, the Pfeiffer men's soccer team (1-0) used two goals by Nathan Regis to defeat Newberry (6-0). Roberto Soares added two scores as the Falcons dominated the Wolves from start to finish to improve to 2-0-1 in season openers under head coach Bob Reasso.
"I thought we played very well in the first half," said Reasso. "We scored some good goals and moved the ball well, which we were quite pleased with. On the whole, we got to play a lot of players which is really important for later on in the season."
Soares didn't wait long to put the Falcons on top as his first score of the day came just 5:49 into the contest. In the 13th minute, Alex Stoiljkovic scored his first career goal after Martim Galvao's corner kick found Stoiljkovic in the box and was headed home. Regis added back-to-back goals in a 10 minute span to give Pfeiffer a comfortable advantage.
Soares started the scoring in the second half, again striking early. 1:20 into the period, Soares added the Falcons fifth goal of the day, giving the junior his third multi-goal game of his career. For the final goal of the game, Regis fed a sliding Jaime Siaj in the 52nd minute to give Regis a five point afternoon.
"It's about getting sharp at this time of the year," commented Reasso. "These types of games are almost like preseason games again because we're just finding out who we are."
The Falcons held a 24-2 advantage in shots and an 11-0 edge in corner kicks. Nicolas Dulac and Tomas Correa shared the shutout in net as Dulac made the only save of the contest for Pfeiffer.
The Falcons return to action on Monday at 2 p.m. as they host Flagler in non-conference action.
