TIGERVILLE, SC - Nathan Regis netted the only goal of the afternoon as the No. 21 Pfeiffer Falcons (9-2, 5-0 CC) defeated North Greenville (1-7-1, 0-6-1) by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. The win keeps Pfeiffer in a first place tie with Limestone in the Conference Carolinas standings.
The game was scoreless until the 44th minute when Martim Galvao found Regis for his 10th goal of the year. Regis entered the game tied with Limestone's Gui Machado for the conference lead in goals but took over the top spot with his tally today and Galvao paces the league with nine assists. The helper was also Galvao's 39th of his career, which ties the school record set by Robert Hinch in 1978.
North Greenville had a chance late in the second half to even the contest but Casey Brady's shot was saved by Tomas Correa as the Falcons posted their third straight clean sheet.
Despite the final score, the game stats were one sided in Pfeiffer's favor. The Falcons held a 20-3 advantage in shots and put seven shots on frame compared to just one from the Crusaders. Pfeiffer took six of the eight corner kicks in the contest.
"We made it harder than we should have," commented Head Coach Bob Reasso following the match. "We weren't effective in the attacking third. We had so many opportunities but didn't take advantage of them. Credit North Greenville for playing hard but we were our own worst enemy today."
Correa improved to 6-1 in goal. James Miller suffered the loss for North Greenville and made six saves in the match.
The Falcons are now 5-1 all-time against North Greenville and have shut out the Crusaders in each of the past three meetings.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Barton for a 7 p.m. match. Barton is currently eighth in the conference standings. The last time these two teams met, Pfeiffer overpowered the Bulldogs 5-0 in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinal last year. Five different Falcons scored in the match.
