Box Score PEMBROKE, NC- The Pfeiffer baseball team (1-6) suffered a walk-off loss at the hands of UNC-Pembroke (6-0) on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning before the Braves tied it up in the home half of the frame and then hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to remain unbeaten.
Pfeiffer struck first in the top of the third inning. The first two batters of the inning struck out, when Xavier Rodriguez single to left field, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Jordan Eckard singled home Rodriguez giving the Falcons an early 1-0 lead.
The Braves took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring two runs on three hits and benefitting from a Pfeiffer fielding error. Again in the eighth inning, Pfeiffer was able to do damage with two outs, Eckard picked up his second RBI of the contest scoring Rodriguez from second base with a single to right field. Anthony Allende followed that up with a single to centerfield scoring Eckard.
UNCP loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when C.J. White hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Drew Beaver from third base.
Allende and Eckard accounted for, four of the Falcons six hits for the game. Pitcher Ethan Greene pitched seven innings, only giving up one earned run and striking out two for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer returns to action this weekend, as they host Molloy for a three-game series. First game on Saturday, February 20 is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
