HICKORY, N.C. – The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (0-2) dropped a close game on Tuesday as they fell to Lenoir-Rhyne 9-8. Two late second half goals by Angela Fratantuono helped Pfeiffer come back from a three goal deficit but were unable to tie and overtake the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored two goals in the 7
th minute to jump out to an early 2-0 lead, but Pfeiffer's
Cheyenne Green answered right back in the 9
th minute to cut into the Bear advantage.
Pfeiffer scored two consecutive goals by
Gracie Herbert and Frantantuono to tie the score at three.
Lenoir Rhyne answered seconds later after the Frantantuono goal to regain the lead 4-3 at the end of one half of play.
Ten seconds into the beginning of the second frame, Whitney Jaffe scored off a Molly O'Friel assist to tie the score again at four apiece.
In a six minute stretch, Lenoir-Rhyne struck for three goals to open up their advantage to 7-4 lead.
With 17:20 remaining, Jaffe scored off an Ally Unkenolz assist, but 30 seconds later, the Bears scored a goal push the advantage to 8-5.
Pfeiffer scored three out of the last four goals of the game from Fratanuono and Green but were unable to catch the Bears dropping 9-8 and their second game of the season.
Falcons goalkeeper Cassidy Wilson saw 17 shots and recorded eight saves on the day and Green picked up two goals.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Friday as they host Lees-McRae in their first home match of the season. Scheduled start time is 4 p.m.
