MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (2-6) dropped a 13-11 non-conference battle with Saint Leo (2-4) on Tuesday night. The Lions broke a 10-10 tie by scoring three of the game's final four goals to pull out the victory.
In Pfeiffer's last three home losses, the Falcons have lost by a combined four goals. Pfeiffer suffered consecutive one-goal losses before tonight's two goal decision. However, Pfeiffer was able to sandwich a 15-5 victory over Erskine in the middle of this stretch.
The duo of Gracie Herbert and Molly O'Friel combined for seven goals on the night as most of the offense ran through them. Whitney Jaffe added two goals and one assist as six of the Falcons goals on the night came via free position shots.
The Falcons finished 6-for-9 in free position attempts, while Saint Leo went 3-for-6. The Lions held a 23-17 lead in ground balls and out shot Pfeiffer 31-23. The Falcons committed 18 turnovers on the night, compared to 14 from the visitors.
Cassidy Wilson was solid in net for the Falcons as the senior was tested often. Wilson finished the game with 13 saves.
Cheyenne Green led Pfeiffer with three ground balls and Herbert added a game-high six draw controls.
The Lions were led by a superb effort from Kelsey Burns who tallied four goals and an assist. Caroline Fraser added two goals and three helpers on the night.
The Falcons return to action on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Bentley in non-conference action.
