HICKORY, N.C. - The Pfeiffer Falcons (6-11) fell to Lenoir-Rhyne (13-3) on Wednesday by the score of 7-3. Pfeiffer shortstop Cody McKenzie went 2-for-4 on the day.
Lenoir-Rhyne struck for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Colby Dishmond doubled to center field to score three runners; Ryan Perkins, Justin Dean and Grant Fuller. Matthew De La Rosa then singled in Dishmond. Will Thompson then singled to center field to bring in De La Rosa.
Lenoir-Rhyne added two more in the bottom of the seventh to take the 7-0 lead.
In the top of the eighth, Falcon leadoff hitter Anthony Allende walked and next batter John Elwood singled to centerfield. McKenzie followed with a two base error, scoring Allende and Elwood from first base to cut the score to 7-2.
In the ninth, third batter of the inning Jordan Eckard started the two out rally as he singled to left center. Next batter Allende singled as Eckard moved up to third base but short stop, De La Rosa threw the ball away allowing Pfeiffer's to get its final run to make it 7-3.
Pfieffer starter Brodrick Rierson made it through four innings of scoreless baseball but couldn't pitch out of the fifth inning jam. Rierson took the loss on the day as he pitched four innings, allowed six hits and five earned runs.
Lenoir-Rhyne used eight pitchers on the day, with no one pitching more than two innings. Reliever Connor Dailey took the win as he allowed just two hits in two innings of work.
Pfeiffer returns to action this weekend as they play Erskine Friday and Saturday in a Conference Carolinas series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
